The week 15 NFL predictions went only 8-8 after the New York Jets' Mark Sanchez turned the ball over what seemed like a million times in drives that could have put us as 9-7, so we have definite room for improvement in week 16. Among the highlights from week 15 were calling the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers to win on the road as underdogs, but it gets a little trickier this weekend while figuring out which teams are still playing hard and which are not.
Record against the point spread: 105-74
Atlanta Falcons -3.5 at Detroit Lions
I keep expecting Atlanta to lose a game and they just keep on winning. You can never tell how the Lions will look from week to week, but it appears the defense has quit on the team. I'll cross my fingers and go with the Falcons in which will surely be a game they finally play terrible in.
Tennessee Titans at Green Bay Packers -12.5
The Titans can't move the ball on offense and don't have the defense to stop the Packers. Look for Green Bay to win huge at Lambeau Field.
Oakland Raiders at Carolina Panthers -8.5
The Panthers have looked better in recent weeks, but I still don't consider them even an average NFL team. They have no business being favored by this many points and I think Oakland can score enough to keep it close.
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins -4.5
I don't trust the Bills on either side of the ball and will go with the Dolphins here. Miami should be able to move the ball while forcing Buffalo into silly turnovers.
Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers -3.5
The Steelers need a win badly and are finally getting healthy. Go with Pittsburgh to show the Bengals that their time in the AFC North hasn't come just yet.
New England Patriots -14.5 at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Patriots have to be fired up after getting embarassed last week against the San Francisco 49ers, and I don't think the Jaguars have the rushing attack to give New England problems. Patriots by 20 or more.
Indianapolis Colts -7 at Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City can run the ball if nothing else, and I still can't trust the Indianapolis defense. The Chiefs at home as a 7-point underdog make for a nice play and they might just win outright.
New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys -2.5
Drew Brees and company might be playing for pride at this point of the season but I still can't see the Cowboys stopping that offense. Go with New Orleans to pull out the road win in a high-scoring affair.
Washington Redskins -6.5 at Philadelphia Eagles
Robert Griffin III figures to be back here, but he can't play defense. The Redskins are poor on that side of the ball and Philadelphia should be able to score at will while keeping this game close.
St. Louis Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3
Tampa Bay can't get out of their own way lately and they are going up against a strong defensive team. The Buccaneers from earlier in the season appear to be a mirage and I'll call for the Rams to get the upset here.
New York Giants -2.5 at Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore's defense has all sorts of problems this year, while the offense is mistake-prone. The Giants need a win and this seems to be the time of the year they usually start playing like Super Bowl contenders. Go with New York.
Minnesota Vikings at Houston Texans -7.5
The Texans seem to look great defensively against all teams without dynamic passing attacks, and Minnesota definitely lacks that facet. Houston wins comfortably at home while this Jeckyll and Hyde defense shows up.
Cleveland Browns at Denver Broncos -12
The Browns are showing a ton of improvement in recent weeks and I still don't trust the Denver defense. That being said, the Broncos will jump out to an early lead and force Cleveland out of their comfort zone. Broncos by 20.
Chicago Bears -5.5 at Arizona Cardinals
The Bears have looked terribly on offense lately and are going on the road into a tough environment to take on a strong defense. Arizona looked better offensively last week and I'll call for them to lose by only 3 while covering the point spread.
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks -1
Seattle and San Francisco might just be the 2 best teams in the NFL, and playing on the road against the Seahawks is never easy. That being said, the 49ers have the experience in these types of games and will pull out a narrow win in an ugly, defensive-minded matchup.
San Diego Chargers at New York Jets -2.5
The Jets don't deserve to be favored over anyone even with a new quarterback at the helm. Go with the Chargers to get the win over a New York squad that has to be disappointed that their playoff dreams for the year are over.
