Our college football predictions haven't achieved the same level of success that our NFL action has attained, but we will look to go out with a bang while producing a winning record in the bowl games. We have 3 selections left before the college football season comes to a close and have strong opinions on all 3 with BCS the National Championship Game between Alabama and Notre Dame being our favorite of the bunch.
Record against the point spread - year to date: 52-65
Record against the point spread in bowl games: 12-11
Pittsburgh vs. Mississippi -3.5
The Panthers don't have much of an offense but they are also not terrible at either offensive facet which should be enough to put up some points against a very average Mississippi defense. The Rebels are explosive on offense but are facing a very tough defense and they've struggled against the better stopping squads they've faced. Ultimately the Panthers come from a poor conference and won't look nearly as impressive against a legitimate SEC team, even if it's not close to one of the elites. Go with Ole Miss.
Arkansas State -4 vs. Kent State
Kent State's offense can score on anyone and the Red Wolves give up far too much yardage despite some occasionally strong defensive efforts. Arkansas State is also explosive on offense and has put up 34 or more points in 7 straight games (all victories). The Golden Flashes haven't stopped many teams so this game figures to be a high-scoring affair. Such is the case, you have to go with Kent State here and hope they have the ball last.
Alabama -9.5 vs. Notre Dame
Notre Dame has been unable to move the ball against anyone they've faced with a pulse on defense this year and they are, quite frankly, lucky not to have a few losses. Alabama's defense is top-notch and will force turnovers while setting their offense up with a short field throughout this game. Notre Dame has an excellent defense themselves but the mistakes on the other side of the ball will doom them as the Crimson Tide wins back-to-back BCS National Championships. Alabama will win by 3 touchdowns or more in this mismatch.
