We went 7-6 against the NFL point spread odds in week 5 but missed badly on teams like the San Diego Chargers, New York Giants, and Atlanta Falcons. We nailed week 5 NFL predictions on Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, and Cincinnati Bengals and we'll take a winning record after a sluggish start.
NFL Record Year-to-Date: 28-32
New York Giants at Chicago Bears -7.5
The Giants are playing with the worst offensive line in football and their defense hasn't been able to stop anyone. I have to side with Chicago at home here.
Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs -9
The Raiders looked good last week but a road game against a much tougher Kansas City team will be too much for them to overcome. Chiefs win by 20 or so.
Philadelphia Eagles -1.5 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers might be able to run the ball for one of the first times all year in this game but the Eagles should be able to score as well. Ultimately we'll go with the home underdog in what should be a shootout.
Green Bay Packers -3 at Baltimore Ravens
Las Vegas hasn't caught on yet but the Ravens are not nearly as good as last season. The Packers should be able to win comfortably here.
Detroit Lions -3 at Cleveland Browns
Cleveland's defense is tough and I like them at home here, especially considering that Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson could sit out again with injury.
Carolina Panthers at Minnesota Vikings -2.5
Carolina just can't get their offense working, even though this game could end up being a shootout since Minnesota's defense is bad. Ultimately I'll go with the small favorite to cover the odds at home.
St. Louis Rams at Houston Texans -7.5
Houston looked terrible last time out against the 49ers but their defense is still above average and they should be able to run against the Rams. The Texans get back on track with a blowout win at home here.
Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets -2.5
Don't trust the Jets' offense just because they passed on the worst secondary in the NFL last week. Go with Pittsburgh to cover the point spread here in a low-scoring game.
Cincinnati Bengals -7 at Buffalo Bills
The Bills without E.J. Manuel are going to be in for some tough games. Cincinnati is beatable on the road but I think the Bengals win by 10 here.
Tennessee Titans at Seattle Seahawks -13.5
The Titans aren't going to move the ball at all in this hostile road environment. Bet on Seattle to name the final score.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos -27
Although I hate to do it, Denver is the right side here. They will score 40 or more without much of an issue and I'm not sure the Jaguars can move the ball on the road.
Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers -10.5
The Cardinals won't be able to score points here but the 49ers' offense could struggle if the "D" doesn't force turnovers. Ultimately take the Cardinals as large underdogs as the 49ers win by only 10.
New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots -2.5
The Saints have the better defense at this point in the season and they also have the better offense until the Patriots prove they can work Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski back into the mix.
Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys -5.5
Dallas should be able to score at will against this poor defense but the Redskins could keep up offensively. Ultimately we'll go with the Cowboys at home because Washington doesn't look right offensively yet.
Indianapolis Colts -1.5 at San Diego Chargers
The Colts have won some impressive games lately and are facing a severely injured Chargers squad. That being said, the Colts are very overrated and I'm going with San Diego at home.
