For the second year in a row my college football predictions can't hold a candle to my highly successful NFL picks, but there is plenty of season left and we head into the bowl games and I don't intend to finish the season out with a losing record. Bowl games make for great bets because we know what both teams bring to the table at this point of the season and we'll start off our predictions with a look at some of the earlier matchups on the college football schedule.
College Football Year-to-Date Record: 36-39-1
Beef O'Brady's Bowl
Ohio versus East Carolina -14
The Bobcats have a much stronger defense while the Pirates have a huge edge offensively. I'm not convinced Ohio can stop a team with this many offensive weapons and think the Pirates win in blowout fashion.
Oregon State -3 versus Boise State
The Broncos have the offense to score on this team but their defense is down in a big way. Oregon State should be able to put up 40 or more without breaking a sweat and they'll win comfortably if they have any interest at all in this game.
Little Caesars Bowl
Pittsburgh at Bowling Green -4
I don't like this Pittsburgh team at all and I'm not sure they'll be that motivated to play against a smaller school anyway. The Falcons have a ton of seniors who will want to go out on top. Bowling Green is the superior team with the motivation and I love these guys to win big.
Utah State at Northern Illinois -1
The Huskies were not far away from busting the BCS a few weeks ago but they could be in over their heads here. Utah State has the linebacker speed to neutralize the running threat of Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch and the Aggies are just a superior team.
Marshall -2.5 at Maryland
Marshall has one of the most exciting offenses in college football and their defense has some playmakers as well. Maryland has shown a good bit of adversity this season but I feel this will be a showcase for the up-and-coming football powerhouse that is the Thundering Herd.
Syracuse at Minnesota -4
The Golden Gophers can score points against most teams but their defense has enough issues that I believe Syracuse will be able to match them score for score while probably winning the Texas Bowl outright.
Fight Hunger Bowl
Washington -3 at BYU
These two schools are two of the most underrated in all of college football and it's almost a shame they have to play one another because there would be value in betting on them seperately against other squads. Ultimately I love BYU's defense a bit more and feel their rushing attack could cause problems for Washington. BYU by 4.
