The college football regular season was a bit of a rollercoaster for our predictions but the bowl game season has treated us very well. For the second year in a row the bowl games are our most productive time of the season and with plenty of matchups to go we hope that the trend continues. Without any further ado, feast your eyes on part 3 our of college football bowl game predictions below.
College Football Year-to-Date Record: 48-42-1
Bowl Game Record: 12-3
Boston College at Arizona -7
Two of the best running backs in college football are featured here but I'm putting my money on the Wildcats. They have played against better teams this season and I think that will give them the toughness necessary to win by double digits.
Virginia Tech at UCLA -7.5
UCLA is a nice enough team but their offense won't be able to move the ball against the Hokies' top flight defense. Virginia Tech is always a question mark to score points but I think this is a very winnable game for them and will call for the upset.
Mississippi State -7 at Rice
It seems like a safe bet to pick an SEC team over a small non-BCS conference squad like Rice but there are a few reasons to think the Owls can keep this game close. First off, the Bulldogs probably have very little motivation to win this game while Rice will be going as hard as possible. Second, Rice is strong on both sides of the ball. Take the Owls and hope their ambition can make up for what they lack in size and speed.
Duke at Texas A&M -12
The Aggies are one of the most exciting teams to watch in college football but they simply don't play defense. Look for the Blue Devils to give up 50 while putting up 40 or more as they cover the point spread in what could be the best college football bowl game of 2013.
Nebraska at Georgia -9
The Big Ten is down in a big way this season and I just don't see Nebraska staying within 20 here. Georgia's defense has been an issue this year but Nebraska doesn't move the ball well enough to take advantage and I'll go with the Bulldogs winning 41-17.
UNLV at North Texas -6.5
These two college football squads are pretty evenly matched and I could see a competitive game. UNLV is tough to predict but they do have some playmakers. North Texas is playing close to home but I'll take the underdog in a matchup that could go either way.
Wisconsin -1.5 at South Carolina
South Carolina is the lesser team on paper but they just keep finding ways to win. Wisconsin is a favorite of mine starting before the season got underway and I love their ability to run the ball and play defense. Ultimately I'm going with the Badgers but wouldn't be surprised if it is South Carolina kicking a field goal to win by 3 at the end.
Iowa at LSU -7.5
The Tigers are the only team to beat Auburn this season but they are another SEC team that is completely lost defensively. Iowa might not have the flash on offense that LSU possesses but they play the game the right way and don't make mistakes on either side of the ball. I'm going with the Hawkeyes and think they could pull the upset potentially.
Michigan State at Stanford -6.5
Stanford is a great team but they are so similar to Michigan State that I don't see any way they should be favored by more than a field goal. These squads might have the best defenses in college football but neither offense can be counted on against top flight defensive units. Look for a low-scoring game full of punts that is decided by a field goal.
Central Florida at Baylor -17
Baylor is a nice team with an incredible offense but Oklahoma State showed the way to beat them and Central Florida has had plenty of time to learn that formula. The Knights are strong on both sides of the ball and with the added time to prepare you have to take them as a 17-point underdog.
