Defense Wins CHAMPIONSHIPS! Arizona Wildcats
By Reel Robinson

Coach Shaun Miller has an interesting team on his hands this year. After losing one of their young studs half way through the season (F Brandon Ashley) the Arizona Wildcats were vulnerable to taking a slight drop. Although they did take a few losses after the injury they proved that great defense can get a team through adversity. Lead by PAC 12 Player of the Year Nick Johnson and freshman of the year in the conference Aaron Gordon the Wildcats may have solidifiedNick Johnson their 1 seed. The most impressive thing about this Arizona team is that defense. One of the stingiest defenses in the country with constant pressure on their opponents' guards helped them start the season with 25 straight wins. Defense can get you pretty far in college basketball but will it get the Wildcats to the Final Four?

The hard nose point guard T.J. McConnell is the conductor behind this freight train that is the Arizona defense. His presence on the floor has made veteran on ball defender Nick Johnson's role that much more impactful. The teams they may face in the tournament may determine a lot about this year. A team that lacks guard depth will have trouble penetrating the continuous pressure U of A will send at them. You can't expect to shoot well against a defense that has kept their opponents fewer than 60 points a game all season, which is 6th overall in the country. Arizona went into hostile environments early this season and defeated Michigan and San Diego State with that aggressive defense as well

The fact of the matter is Arizona will be a pretty hard team to get pass in the tournament. A veteran squad with great guards at the helm will make for an interesting matchup if they ran into guard dominated teams like Florida and Virginia. As long as their defense travels with the potency that it has all year I think the wildcats can make a strong push for the Final Four. I wonder sometimes about their offensive production they have been known to go through scoring droughts in the past hopefully they can figure that out going into the conference tournament. After sweeping the season awards in the PAC 12 this year the goal for Arizona is simple and that is to bring home a championship.

Do you think Arizona is a favorite to go deep in the tournament? Post a comment and let me know what you think..
