Sweet 16 Breakdown: South Region
By Reel Robinson

We are experiencing one of sport’s most electrifying times of the year. The NCAA tournament is in full effect and this week we are gearing up for an amazing round of 16. The road to the Final Four is among us and the teams who were able to battle through the ups and downs to move forward in the tourney. After fighting through two tough teams to reach the next step in their tournament hopes are now positioned and ready to finish what they have started. The South Region is led by overall No. 1 seed Florida, who have performed as expected by most experts, advancing pretty smoothly to the Sweet 16. I want to talk about these matchups in more detail coming out of the South Region on Thursday Night.

Florida will take on the No. 4 seeded UCLA Bruins on Thursday night and this will be their toughest opponent so far in the tournament. UCLA won the Pac-12 tournament and have been playing their best basketball the final month of the season. Led by sophomore guard Kyle Anderson, the Bruins are a long and athletic team that gets the ball up the floor effectively and often. They're one of the best transition teams I've watched this year. They defeated a stout Arizona Wildcat defense in the Pac-12 Championship game, garnering a very good seed in the tournament. Florida, who is as legit as they come, will have to continue with their stingy pressure defense to avoid the upset. The veteran Gators will need to slow down this UCLA team and force them into turnovers. Senior guard Scottie Wilbekin -- who has been solid all tournament long -- will have to deal with some long guards who can cover the floor fast. After watching both teams play, I have UCLA in an upset over the top seed.

The second game out of the South Region is between two unsuspected teams. No. 10 Stanford is playing like they belong in the Sweet 16 and have handled each of their first two round opponents with poise and confidence. Stanford took down No. 2 seed Kansas 60-57, upsetting one of the favorites to win the title. They will be taking on No. 11 Dayton, which is a team who has defeated some higher seeds as well. Dayton took down Ohio State in the first round and followed that performance with a 55-53 upset over No. 3 Syracuse. Both teams are led by veteran players who are playing their last games of their college careers. It will be an exciting matchup between two strong teams. Dayton has played well against two of the best defenses in the country, and I have a feeling playing against a less impressive defense will open up the floor for their athleticism. I have Dayton winning this game and advancing to the Elite Eight.

The pressure of the tournament is building and teams are traveling like rock stars right now. Which teams will come out on top in the Sweet 16? Leave me a comment?
