2014 Fantasy Football: TD-Only Rankings
By Matt Horkman

One of the long-standing fantasy football traditions is the TD-only league. The league rules are self-explanatory. The only way to score points is to pick players that score touchdowns. In other words, the emphasis is on players who touch the ball inside the 20s, not outside the 20s.

Mike Tolbert is a good example. Last year, he had more flex appeal in TD-only leagues than both Torrey Smith and Brian Hartline. Both Smith and Hartline had over 1,000 yards receiving, yet the duo combined to score just six touchdowns. Tolbert, meanwhile, totaled seven touchdowns, netting him 42 fantasy points. That’s six more than the combined 36 that Smith and Hartline scored.
Drew Brees
The simplicity and time-efficiency of TD-only leagues make them appealing, yet you shouldn’t overlook strategy. Most leagues revolve around running backs, but TD-only leagues places a premium on quarterbacks. Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Peyton Manning are the only quarterbacks projected to throw at least 40 touchdowns. As a result, they’re the top three overall players in TD-only leagues.

As with any league, having a plan going into your draft is important to your success. Whether you’re a long-time player or a newcomer to TD-only leagues, the following rankings can be a useful tool in setting your draft strategy.
