Following the course that saw us put us huge 2nd halves of the season in recent years, we started out our college football yearly predictions with a thud in week 1. We picked Stanford, Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State who all lost while failing to cover the betting odds. The lone week 2 win our predictions put together was a bet on Ole Miss who was an easy victory and we'll expect a few more of those as we head into week 3.
College Football Year-to-Date Record: 1-4
East Carolina +10 at #17 Virginia Tech
The Hokies are coming off a great win over Ohio State but I still question their inexperienced quarterback and defense. East Carolina is a team that can put up points against just about everyone and with the Hokies not being a high scoring bunch themselves I feel you have to take the big underdog. It's a stretch, but I could see the Pirates winning this game outright.
#21 Louisville -6.5 at Virginia
Louisville has looked good this season but I question how they'll hold up without Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback and coach Charlie Strong now at Texas. I personally feel they are being overrated in a big way and they'll be exposed a bit on the road against a solid Cavaliers squad. Bet on Virginia to either win or lose in a close game.
#6 Georgia -7 at South Carolina
Week 3 is a great week for betting against teams who have overinflated or underinflated perceived values and South Carolina is definitely the latter. The Gamecocks have not looked strong thus far but they are above average on both sides of the ball and at home this is a winnable game for them. Georgia QB Hunter Mason has limited experience and I think he'll make enough mistakes to cost his team a victory on Saturday.
#12 UCLA -7.5 at Texas
The Bruins' offense has not looked sharp in the early going and I'm not sure they deserve to be favored by this many points on the road. Texas has played their games thus far with multiple suspensions but are scheduled to get some key guys back and I trust Charlie Strong more than most as a head coach. It won't be easy but I think the Longhorns stay in this game and either win outright or close by 3 or 4.
#16 Arizona State -15 at Colorado
The Buffaloes looked like one of the worst teams in college football last week against Massachusetts and their defense is set to give up 40 or more points here. The Sun Devils dominated this Pac 12 matchup and I'm not even sure Colorado can keep the final margin to 30.
