College Football Preview - Week 4 Odds & Predictions
By Jake Thompson

college football week 4 predictionsAfter a rough start to the year it appears we are now hitting our stride as we went 4-1 in week 3 games with the only loss coming as Arizona State won 38-24 against Colorado.  We had taken the Sun Devils as a 15-point betting favorite and they were up by 21 heading into the 4th starter when their starting quarterback Taylor Kelly left the game with an injury and Colorado scored late.  We correctly predicted upsets by East Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia while also tabbing Texas as a team that can play neck-and-neck with UCLA.

College Football Year-to-Date Record: 5-5

Florida at #3 Alabama -14.5

Many people still have last year's awful Florida squad fresh in their minds but the Gators look like a team that could challenge for the championship this season.  I love Alabama but for the first time in a while they don't have any experienced quarterback and could easily find themselves on the losing end of this week 4 game.

#2 Oregon-23 at Washington State

We all know the Ducks can score points and they seem likely to get to 50 or 60 against the below average Washington State defense.  That being said, the Cougars have one of my favorite offenses in college football this season and could conceivably hang 40 on just about any team in the nation.  Look for a shootout where Washington State covers the odds.

#22 Clemson at #1 Florida State -14

Florida State will be playing without Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston for the 1st half because of a suspension but they could have Winstall Churchill behind center and it wouldn't matter in this matchup.  The Seminoles are just a million times better than Clemson everywhere and the Tigers will be lucky not to lose by 30+.

Virginia at #21 BYU -14.5

The Cavaliers won us money last week but I just don't see them moving the ball at all in this game.  BYU might struggle to score a bit more than usual but with Virginia possibly being shut out I have to think that the Cougars at home are the correct way to bet this game.

Mississippi State at #8 LSU -9

LSU and Mississippi State are both loaded this year and the SEC is as good as it's been as far back as I can remember.  I think Mississippi State ends up losing a close game because of a strong defensive effort so take the underdog and hope LSU struggles a bit to start this one out.

Miami Florida at #24 Nebraska -8

The Cornhuskers still have big time question marks on defense and in the passing game.  They don't show consistency from game to game which makes them very difficult to bet on or against.  Miami Florida has had a couple games to gel with Brad Kaaya at quarterback and if the spotlight is not too much for him the Hurricanes could win outright.  Take the underdog.

#4 Oklahoma -7.5 at West Virginia

Oklahoma is loaded on both sides of the ball but West Virginia is much improved and already played a close one with Alabama.  Ultimately I think the Sooners' offense is going to get whatever they want here and the Mountaineers are eventually going to get to a point where they can't keep up.  Go with Oklahoma.
