Thanks to a number of close calls we ended up with a 3-2-2 record for our week 5 college football predictions. We had Baylor -21.5 and they only won by 21, while Ole Miss and Stanford won by exactly the point spread. We had N.C. State to keep it close as a large underdog against Florida State and for Missouri to put up a fight against South Carolina with both covering the odds easily. Now we'll move on to our week 6 college football predictions and there are a few games that stand out above the rest.
College Football Year-to-Date Record: 11-11
#14 Stanford -2.5 at #9 Notre Dame
I don't believe the Fighting Irish are as strong of a team as they appear and still believe that their offense is extremely limited. Stanford has been playing great defense for years and should force key turnovers while winning by double digits. The Cardinal are simply better at playing the same style that Notre Dame is trying to play.
#4 Oklahoma -4 at #25 TCU
The Sooners are an excellent team but TCU can play with anyone in the nation. The Horned Frogs are coming off of a bad year but it wasn't long ago this team was knocking off power conference squads regularly. Now that they've had a few years of top notch recruiting they are ready to topple the big boys and I think they get a signature win on Saturday.
#3 Alabama -4.5 at #11 Ole Miss
This year's Ole Miss team is as good as anyone in the nation. Bo Wallace needs to play a good game for them to get the win but the Rebels' defense is just as good as Alabama's and the offense has the potential to be better. Head coach Hugh Freeze is an offensive genious and I think Ole Miss gets the upset win.
#15 LSU at #5 Auburn -7.5
Seven and a half points seems like a lot with both SEC squads plenty skilled here but Auburn should roll. Auburn is strong defensively this season and should shut down the LSU attack. I'm not sure LSU can stop Auburn and think the home team wins by 20 in a rout.
#19 Nebraska at #10 Michigan State -7
The Cornhuskers have played well this season but I still don't trust them to score against a quality defense like Michigan State. They don't throw the ball well enough to do that and I'm not 100% sold on their defense either. I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why the Spartans aren't 20-point favorites here and expect them to win easily.
