It's Championship Week in college football. If we want to avoid our first losing college or pro football betting record in four years, we have a lot of ground to make up. Historically, we've dominated from week 15 onward and expect to finish the season strong with a slew of wins. Our predictions for week 15 have some one-sided opinions among them, and we firmly expect to turn out a winning record.
College Football Year-to-Date Record: 30-40
No. 16 Missouri at No. 1 Alabama -14.5
The Tigers have faced an easy schedule when it comes to the SEC, so I don't see them competing in this game. I realize that Alabama isn't as strong as they were in previous seasons, but the Tigers' defense isn't nearly as strong as last year, and their offense relies too much on the running game. The Crimson Tide will take away the run and force Missouri to make mistakes. I just can't see this game ending in anything other than a one-sided blowout. Alabama by 27.
No. 9 Kansas State at No. 6 Baylor -7
The Bears will have quarterback Bryce Petty suited up, but he's not quite at 100% after suffering an injury last week. Baylor's defense is not a top-end unit by any stretch, and I much prefer the well-rounded status of Kansas State. The Wildcats' have no weaknesses. Their defense is well above average, and their offense can both run and pass the ball well. Kansas State is the better team here and should win outright.
No. 4 Florida State -3.5 at No. 11 Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech is flying high after taking out Georgia last week to win one of our predictions, but I don't think they fare as well in this matchup. Florida State has their share of issues, but I don't see the Yellow Jackets' run-based offense being effective against a defense this strong. Look for a low-scoring game where the Seminoles win 27-17.
No. 13 Wisconsin -4 at No. 5 Ohio State
There is a reason Las Vegas sportsbooks have made the lower-rated squad a betting favorite here. Simply put, the Badgers are better everywhere. Ohio State lost a Heisman candidate at quarterback last week, who was a replacement for their original Heisman candidate at quarterback. Wisconsin is strong everywhere and I just can't see the Buckeyes staying in this one with all the injuries they've suffered, especially at the most important position in football.
Fresno State at No. 22 Boise State -24
Boise State is at home on the blue turf and a win here will put them into a premium bowl game (likely the Fiesta Bowl). That being said, the Broncos had trouble stopping the Bulldogs the first time these teams met up, and I still don't trust their defense. This has all the makings of a barn-burner. I'm calling for Boise State to win, but by a final score of 45-34, allowing Fresno State to win the bet.
